On May 20, 2025, the south lawn of the Connecticut State Capitol came alive with chants, posters and passion as over 2500 nonprofit workers, leaders and families gathered to demand what they’ve long deserved. Fair funding. Living wages. Respect for the work that keeps communities whole.

It was a powerful sight. A sea of signs ranging from heartbreaking to hilarious. One that caught everyone’s attention came from a rally goer holding up a bright yellow poster of SpongeBob SquarePants that read “Even SpongeBob can afford a home on a fry cook’s salary.”

It got laughs but it made a real point. In a state as wealthy as Connecticut families with jobs and housing vouchers should not still be stuck in shelters.
Wealth Beacon Group Foundation was front and center with CEO Yvette Glenn and Board Member Fateria Sheats standing in solidarity with change makers across the state fighting for the resources that nonprofits need to thrive.

Yvette Glenn took that message a step further. “We are not just asking for help we are proving what is possible when you fund nonprofits with vision. This is not about charity. This is about justice” she said.
Over the past year Wealth Beacon Group Foundation has helped six families and fifteen children transition from homelessness to WBG's housing, while offering financial education, therapy, employment support, and a sense of dignity and stability. Each home represents more than shelter. It is a foundation for healing, rebuilding, and reclaiming hope one family at a time. Behind every lease is a story of perseverance. Behind every front door is a new beginning.
Families are not just being placed they are being prepared. They are joining a community where they are seen, supported, and set up to thrive. And thanks to the unwavering leadership of Yvette and the wraparound model of WBG those transformations are becoming more than just dreams. They are becoming outcomes.

Fateria Sheats brought her boots-on-the-ground experience to the forefront. As a Landlord Engagement Specialist and fierce advocate she reminded legislators and fellow attendees that housing is about relationships and trust.
“Our families are doing everything right. They have vouchers. They are working. They are showing up. But the system is underfunded and overstretched. We need support now not next year” she said passionately.
The rally called on lawmakers to
• Increase Medicaid reimbursement rates
• Commit to long term nonprofit funding
• Provide wage increases for frontline nonprofit staff
• Recognize nonprofits as essential partners in building a better Connecticut
From SpongeBob signs to soul-stirring testimonies the Capitol was filled with voices demanding more than temporary fixes. They were calling for investment in real solutions led by people who live the work every day.

Wealth Beacon Group Foundation will continue to advocate, organize, and speak truth to power because we know our families deserve more than survival. They deserve transformation.
And we will not stop until they get it.
